Online Course – 2.0 hours
In our patient interview physical therapy course, we examine the art and science of the clinician-patient interview. Previous studies have shown how this ritual has benefitted patients’ psychological and clinical outcomes.
Studies have also shown the value of the interview in the determination of a patient’s diagnosis. Similar studies have also compared the subjective and clinical examination for the determination of an eventual diagnosis.
This course goes much deeper than this, though. We detail characteristics of what has been reported as a good interview. We provide practical examples and discuss things we could have improved when doing the subjective interview in the examples provided.
Finally, we address motivational interviewing and communicating evidence to patients. We provide practical examples of each. We utilize the current best evidence to demonstrate the most effective strategies when providing your patient with information. After all, it has been shown that patients generally only remember about 50% of the information provided to them. We must be better for the sake of our patients and their families.
